Photo Policy

Photography

1. This is a peer group – everyone, including you, enforces this policy.

2. Digital cameras only – no film cameras, no ’phone/cams

3. Use only the photography area to take photographs.

4. Don’t take anyone’s photograph without his or her consent, as indicated by a green wristband or by mutual agreement with those wearing no wristband. You get your wristband at the entrance.

5. Wherever you take photographs, don’t disturb other people’s activities.

6. If you really can’t get to the photography area, the DM MUST supervise your photography.

7. Wearing a Red wristband means "No photographs – please don’t even ask me".

8. Wearing a Green wristband means “I consent to being photographed”.

9. Wearing no wristband means “Ask me, I might or might not consent “.

In other words, if you want to take photographs:

•       go to the photography area;

•       make sure the camera is pointing at the backdrop or into the area, not out of it;

•       make sure nobody besides your subject is even partially in the shot;

•       if others are likely to be in the shot, make sure they are wearing a Green wristband or obtain their explicit consent before you snap away:

•       if someone says “NO”, respect that – don’t try to dissuade them.

If you are in suspension or are otherwise unable to reach the photography area, and want a photograph:

•       warn the DM beforehand - persuade the DM that you are utterly unable to reach the photo area:

•       when ready, fetch the DM. Don’t disturb others around you by asking them to move – be patient and leave this to the DM:

•       if and only if the DM is satisfied that a safe photo can be taken, then you may take the shot.

If you see ANYONE outside the photography area using a camera and the DM is not standing RIGHT NEXT TO THEM, let the DM know IMMEDIATELY. We all agree that if we break these simple rules, we will allow all the photographic media in our possession to be erased and leave the event as soon as this has been done.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to reaching this consensus.
